OSP General Laborer

Full-Time. Open Nationally. Benefits: Dental, Vision, Medical, Life

Job Responsibilities

  • Laborers perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor
  • Hand dig with shovel, sharpshooter, etc.
  • Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Dig trenches, signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, restoration of trench lines seeding, raking, spreading straw and other tasks associated with utility construction
  • Ability to position, join, align, and seal pipe sections, pull cable in various pathways. Mix, pour and finish concrete and asphalt onto roads and/or conduit. Assists in directional drilling and direct-bury cable operations.
  • Traffic control: Flagging and traffic control; install traffic control devices; clear and prepare highway work zones.
  • Materials handling/housekeeping: Assist in loading/unloading construction materials and supplies; perform general housekeeping activities at construction sites and yards.
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50+ pounds
  • Reach, bend, and stoop while performing work
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
  • Must be willing to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel required.

Experience & Skills

  • General knowledge of methods and materials used in construction work and occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies
  • 1 years+ experience with outside plant construction preferred
  • Strong communication skills are essential, as is a cooperative attitude toward co-workers, customers, and contractors
  • Ability to interact effectively with other team members
  • Valid driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record
  • Must have good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • May have to work independently without supervision
  • Work outdoors in all kinds of weather

Plow Operator

Full-Time. Open Nationally. Benefits: Dental, Vision, Medical, Life

The Plow Operator is responsible for operating a variety of cable plows required to install conduit and cable for our customer. The Operator is also responsible for running a variety of equipment related to underground construction in accordance with company policies and safety related procedures. V1Fiber offers a weekly production bonus based on meeting safety, quality, and realistic weekly production goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate jobsite equipment safely.
  • Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on machine, check oil and fluids.
  • Slope ditches and/or shore ditches and pits.
  • Operates mini excavator, skid steer, and plow/trench machinery
  • Observe pipe laying for safety purposes, such as possible cave-ins.
  • Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead.
  • Maintain sub-grade and assist in setup grade.
  • Set up center line.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Organization of materials and other resources is necessary to complete excavation requirements, which may include basic hand tools
  • Ensure Company assets are properly and continuously maintained in good repair and secured in a safe manner

Experience & Skills

  • 3 years’ experience operating large cable plows in both standard and high-risk areas, such as areas with live utilities.
  • Knowledge of highway traffic control standards
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, practices and procedures
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Knowledge of utility depths and placement
  • CDL Required – or the ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days of employment.
  • Highly organized and detail orientated
  • Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job

Requirements

  • Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer and fall weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Assume responsibility for work outcomes and results of other workers.
  • May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated

Locator

Job Responsibilities

  • Underground Utility Experience
  • Experience with Vermeer directional drills
  • Extensive knowledge of bore chemicals and mud mixtures
  • Changing soil conditions
  • Working knowledge of grades/slopes
  • Daily maintenance updates
  • Detect wearing parts and maintenance
  • Determine proper down hole tooling needed (back-reaming)· Assist in the installation of underground utilities. Works in trenches and ditches, uses ladders and operates equipment and manages crew.
  • Verify locates are correct & Spot for Utilities
  • Train laborers and upskill operators
  • Supervise and layout tasks for the day
  • Ensure paperwork is accurate, complete & timely in all reporting
  • Read blueprints and ensure locates correspond to prints
  • Constantly communicate with Supervisors & Project Manager.
  • Preform other related duties as assigned
